The place where I belong: "The Mystical Island Dinagat"

Have you ever gone to a place where everything you want is already there, in terms of beautiful beaches, beautiful sceneries or let just say a little/mini Palawan? If not, let us go! Let me tour you in our place but before that let me introduce it first.
Philippines has 7,017 islands divided into 3 major parts namely Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Mindanao is popularly known as the” land of promise”. Looking at the map, our place is nowhere to be found because it is a small island but our place is so   wonderful and unique.  Let me start introducing our place in this way.
Long, long time ago, there were two camps in an unknown place. The two camps were rivals. Both camps had their child a boy and girl named Prince Gat and Princess Dina. They fell in love with each other but because their families   were rivals there love became forbidden. There love was very powerful to the extent of fighting for it until the end. And the place where they lived was called Dinagat.

Dinagat province was long before part of Surigao Del Norte, but Dec. 2, 2006       with the R.A No. 9355 it became a province. Unfortunately, last Feb. 11, 2011, the Supreme Court of the Philippine declared that the making of Dinagat as a province is null and void for the reason that Dinagat did not meet the requirement to make a local government unit. However on March 30 of the same year the Supreme Court reversed their decision and upheld the constitutionality of R.A No. 9355 and the creation of Dinagat islands as a province.

Dinagat came from the word “dinagatan” which means “ what you’ve got in fishing?”. It is an island surrounded by water and composed of 7 municipalities namely Basilisa, Dinagat, Libjo, Tubajon, Cagdianao, Loreto and San Jose. It is located near the Leyte gulf and at the south portion of Surigao del norte. It takes 2 hours from Surigao City to Dinagat province riding a pump boat. Its location being away from a city gives so many advantages to those people            who lived there in preserving their culture and their natural way of living. The people of Dinagat  are called Dinagatnon. Their common dialects are Surigaonon, bisaya, and Cebuano.

Do you want a memorable bath and get tanned? Check these amazing beaches at Dinagat.  We have this Sta. Cruz beach located at the municipality of San Jose.

Sundayo beach is located at the municipality of Basilisa. Sundayo originated from the       word “sundalo” which is translated in English as “army”. It is called Sundayo because there is a rock formation there that looks like the helmet of an army. We have this lake Bababu this condition of this lake is called “meramictic” a type of water body where fresh and marine water do not mix.

We have this Bitaog beach also.
Next is the natural bonsai forest and bat sanctuary.

Nature has always the best scenario to show but humans also do have their man-made beautiful sceneries. Let’s check this out. The Shrine and white castle located at the municipality of San Jose.

Dinagat has also their annual competition for their festival known” Bugkusan”   which means unity. The festival is done to build unity between the 7 municipalities of Dinagat Islands.

Now how can you ignore the beauty of Dinagat province starting from the natural to man-made beautiful creations? I think there is no   way to ignore all of these, the only way you have to do is to grab your family and friends and see what is inside the mystical province of Dinagat.

I am residing at the municipality of Basilisa saying: WHAT YOU HAVE READ IS JUST A GLIMPSE OF DINAGAT ISLANDS’ IRRESISTIBLE CHARM.
